Sports/Deep Tissue Massage
Sports Massage is a form of deep tissue massage. The idea of sports massage is to manipulate the body's soft tissues and focus on certain muscle groups/body areas to prepare for or recover from sporting events, or to treat injury. Sports massage, despite the name, is suitable for both sports people and non-athletes no matter how active they are and can be hugely beneficial to non-sport-related muscle injuries and imbalance.
Deep tissue massage is more focused on full body massage or large areas of the body to reduce more general tension. The deep tissue work helps to relieve muscular tension, alleviate chronic pain, muscle aches, reduce stress, breaks down muscle fibres ‘knots’, helps to eliminate waste products via increasing blood flow through the muscles and promoting lymphatic drainage away.
Sports/Deep Tissue massage uses a variety of pressure, often deeper to reach the inner layers of the muscle fibres and rigid tissues, more intense and focused than in conventional massage. Hands, knuckles, elbows, and forearms are often used during the massage. Working on a problematic area may certainly cause some discomfort, depending on the individual´s pain threshold. If you feel like the pain is too much, then talk to your therapist. Your feedback is important.
